Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute Signs Agreement with Shanghai Mental Health Center


Shanghai, June 6th, 2018: The Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute today signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Shanghai Mental Health Center, the leading professional mental health hospital in China (affiliated mental health center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine). Both parties will jointly invest in advanced resources to further the study of mental illness.

 

Tianqiao Chen, Chairman of the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute, said, “I am very pleased to welcome the Shanghai Mental Health Center as our new partner in China. Mental illness is a disease increasingly affecting society and the Shanghai Mental Health Center is world-renowned for its clinical and scientific programs in this area. Our hope is that by working together, we can overcome mental illness and benefit all humanity.”

Professor Mao Ying, Vice President of Fudan University-affiliated Huashan Hospital and Director of Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute in China, said, “The addition of the Shanghai Mental Health Center as a strategic partner of the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute is significant. In the near future, we will launch a number of innovative, scientific research projects to support China’s brain-focused initiatives and advance international partnerships.”

 

About the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute

The Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute (TCCI®) was founded by Tianqiao Chen and his wife Chrissy Luo, the founders of Shanda Group. The couple committed US$1 billion to support fundamental brain research and in 2016, the Institute created the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute for Neuroscience at Caltech. In 2017, the Institute signed a strategic partnership agreement with Zhou Liangfu Medical Development Foundation and Huashan Hospital of Fudan University, creating TCCI® China (dba Chen Tianqiao Brain Disease Research Institute). TCCI® China brings together outstanding neurological medical doctors and scholars, conducting basic and clinical research on brain diseases and promoting international exchanges.

 

About the Shanghai Mental Health Center

The Shanghai Mental Health Center was established in 1935. It is one of the largest mental health hospitals in the world with the widest variety of mental health disciplines in China. The Center has two hospitals in Shanghai, with over 250 psychiatrists and 540 psychiatry-mental health nurses, more than 2,100 beds and an annual outpatient capacity of 860,000 visits. In addition to being the affiliated hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, it is also the teaching hospital for Fudan University, Tongji University, and the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
